Ganga River: The Ganges, originates in the Himalayas at Gaumukh flowing into the bay of Bay of Bengal is the most sacred river of India and the longest river in India. The river has been declared as India’s “National River” and the Gange dolphins are also declared as the national aquatic animal of India. There are so many tributary to the Ganga like Yamuna, Chambal, Betwa and one of the major is  the Ghaghara, which meets it before Patna. Varanasi is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world, it has has hundreds of temples so called “City of Temples” is situated along the banks of the Ganges. There are two major dams in gange river one is The Haridwar dam and another is Farakka. 
                                      
Yamuna River: Yamuna River is a major river and most polluted river of the Indian subcontinent rising form Yamunotri in the Himalaya Mountains and merges with the Ganges at Triveni Sangam, Allahabad, the site for the Kumbha Mela. This is one of the country’s most sacred rivers, Gokul and Mathura on the other bank of the river are holy places for hindu. The Tons, Chambal and Giri rivers are the important tributaries of Yamuna,River Mandakini is the last tributaries of river Yamuna before it joins The Gange in Allahabad. The famous Taj Mahal is situated on the bank of the holy Hindu river Yamuna in Agra. One of the famous Naini Bridge builds across the Yamuna river.

Famous Forts of India


Red Fort, Delhi   
                                      
A red sandstone structure which presents India before the world, Red Fort in Delhi is rightly been called the pride of the city and of India too.
Inscribed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, this magnificent red citadel is but just a ghost of its former glory days. Red Fort in Delhi was built by the Mughal Emperor Shahjahan in the 17th century AD.
It took around 10 years to complete and is originally referred to as ‘Quila-e-Mubarak’ as royal family used to live there. Inside the fort, there are public and private halls, mosques, gardens and alongside this runs the river Yamuna.

Amber Fort, Jaipur
A beautiful gemstone in the royal crown of Rajasthan, Jaipur charms the guests with its fleet of palaces and forts. One of the most visited and beguiling of Jaipur forts is the Amber Fort, situated in a serene backdrop of the Aravali Hill.
When you reach the fort, you will get a warm welcome by the silent wavelets of the Maota Lake. The blend of Hindu, Rajput and Mughal architectural style adorn the fort and make the guests let them loose to its grandeur of presentation.
The intricate marble, glass, metal and wood carvings can be well witnessed in this beautiful fort built by Raja Man Singh .

Great Temples of India

1. Khajuraho Temple in Madhya Pradesh

A group of monuments standing as a proof that sensuality was not a taboo subject in India, Khajuraho temples are renowned for their erotic carvings on the outer walls. But when you'll enter the complex, the interiors or temples are exact opposite. Well carved, calm and serene. Built during the reign of Chandela dynasty, these temples are fondly frequented more due to its artistic brilliance and less due to the religious fervor. The temples are divided into four groups- western, eastern and southern. While western and southern group of temples are largely dedicated to two Hindu deities- Shiva and Vishnu, the eastern group is highly influenced by Jainism. The best time to visit these temples is Khajuraho festivals which depicts several classical southern group   by dancers in the backdrop of magnificent Khajuraho temples. 

2. Somnath Temple in Gujarat

Somnath temple has got the recognition of first jyotirlinga of  Lord Shiva and adorns the vibrant state of Gujarat. The word ‘Somnath’ means Lord of the Moon. Mythology says that Somnath temple was first built by the moon God after Lord Shiva listened to his prayers and partially freed him from the curse of waning given to him by his father in law Daksh. The boon Lord Shiva is considered to be the reason behind waxing and waning period of moon between  full moon and New Moon. Over the course of history, the temple has been ransacked and rebuilt several times prior to its last restoration in 1947.

List of Civilian Awards in India

  • PADMA VIBHUSHAN

BHARAT RATNA : Bharat Ratna is India's highest civilian award awarded for the highest degrees of national service and contribution to different fields like art, literature and science. Bharat Ratna does not confer any knighthood to its recipient but it is recognition of the highest order of public service. It has been awarded to forty one people so far. The award was established by the first President of  India, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, on 2 January 1954. Along with other major national honours, such as the Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri, the awarding of the Bharat Ratna was  suspended from 13 July 1977 to 26 January 1980.

List of Sports Awards in India

Arjuna Award: It was instituted in the year 1961 as the highest national recognition of distinguished sports persons. The awardee is given a bronze statuette of Arjuna, a scroll, and a cash prize along with a monogram, a blazer and a tie. Some of the winners in this category are Soma Biswas and Anju B. george in atheletics, Pankaj Advani in billiards and snooker, Virender Shewag in cricket, and Samaresh Jung in shooting.

Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna: 
Launched from the year 1991-92 with the objective of honoring most outstanding sportspersons to enhance their general status and to give them great dignity and place of honour in society. Under this scheme, an amount of Rs. 1.00 lakh is given as award for the most spectacular and outstanding performance in the field of sports by an individual sportsperson or a team. Some of the recipients of this award are Pullela Gopi Chand in badminton, Dhanraj Pillay in hockey, and Sachin Tendulkar in cricket.

Dronacharya Award:
 Dronacharya Award was instituted in 1985 to honour eminent coaches who have done outstanding and meritorious 'work on consistent basis, to motivate them to dedicate themselves with a singularity of purpose for raising the standards of sportspersons to highest performance in international events and bring glory to the country.Some of the recipients of this award are Robert Bobby George in athletics, Machael Joseph Ferreira in billards and snookers, and Anoop Kumar in boxing.

Dhyan Chand Award for Life Time Achievement in Sports and Games: The award was initiated in 2002 and is named after the legendary Indian hockey player Dhyan Chand. It is India's highest award for lifetime achievement in sports and games, given by the Government of India. Some of the recipients of this award are Hardayal Singh in hockey, Gurcharan Singh in boxing .

Holley for his efforts to show how the nucleotides in nucleic acids, which carry the genetic code of the cell, control the cell’s synthesis of proteins.
·  C.V. Raman ,Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman, an Indian physicist who is famous for his research on "inelastic scattering of a photon (Raman Effect)". He won the Nobel Prize for Physics in the year 1930 for his discovery that when light traverses a transparent material, some of the deflected light changes in wavelength.
·  Rabindranath Tagore  He was a Bengali poet, philosopher, artist, playwright, composer and novelist. He is famous for his book Gitanjali. He won Nobel Prize in Literature for the year 1913. He became the first non-European to win this Award.
